A message of hope?

‘Twas many nights including Christmas, and all through the land

Many a creature was stirring, much fear was at hand;

The pictures were hung by chimneys with care,

In hopes that our soldiers soon would return here;

The children were wandering far from their beds,

While delusions of wellness danced in president’s heads;

And mammas and papas listened to the rap,

Of government officials surely taking a nap,

When there on the TV there arose such a clatter,

I turned up the volume to see what was the matter.

It seems that Wall Street had another crash,

Or presidential candidates each other did bash.

Or the moon on the breast of a new-fallen Joe

Again lowered my spirits lower than low,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

Some actual good news, I saw it right there,

Some smiling people, so lively and quick,

I was sure in that moment it must be a trick.

More rapid than eagles a realization came,

And I whistled, and shouted, and said a profane name;

“Now, Dash it! Now, Dang it! Now, sit down and listen!

How, comic! How stupid! A wonder it is then!

We’re the top of the food chain! We have to duty a call!

Now dash away! Dash away! Negativity all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So with our hopes and dreams be they but few,

We should hold onto strongly, and share with others too.

And then, in a twinkling, I sought out the proof

That good will and kindness is not just a goof.

As I wondered the land, spreading such thoughts around,

Down the fear, horror and anger came with a bound.

We must impress all with smiles, from our head to our foot,

And cloth ourselves in brightness instead of ashes and soot;

A bundle of joy we must fling to the pack,

And not be surprised when it’s returned back.

Our eyes – they should twinkle! Our dimples be merry!

Our cheeks be filled with laughter, our frowns we should bury!

Our droll little mouths should be drawn up like a bow,

A firm and steady chin is what we should show;

And stump all those who to us bare their teeth,

As an aura of goodness will encircle our head like a wreath;

And right in the face of what we see on the telly,

Our whole body will laugh, shaking like jelly.

Once we get off our rump, as jolly as an elf,

We’ll laugh when we see negative, in spite of our self;

In a blink of an eye it will come into our head,

And soon we will know we have nothing to dread;

We need speak not a word, but go straight to our work,

And fill the world with kindness; no need to be a jerk,

The answer is there on the tip of our nose,

Giving is good, if only to we but chose;

So I say “What the hey!”, to all I give a whistle,

And away our fears will fly like the down of a thistle.

And we should all exclaim, to drive away the night,

“Happiness to all, let’s live our life bright!”
