Wrapping trouble

A few years back, I borrowed ‘Twas the night before Christmas, read it, passed it through my own word grinder, and came up with a slightly different version that expressed something I wanted to say. Since then it has become a sort of seasonal habit for me to come up with some version. Technically it started a long time ago with a Chanukah remake. This year I was going to give it a pass, but then the newest 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups showed up, and wouldn’t you know, the prompt is:

…twas the night before Christmas…

So now I feel obliged haha. Here is my newest attempt …

‘Twas the night before Christmas
and all through my mind
several voices were arguing
no consensus could they find.

“It should be yellow”, said one,
“Or better yet maybe blue.”
Another voice answered loudly,
“Make your mind up, please do!”

A third voice chimed in,
and very clearly said,
“I am well convinced,”
that it should be red!”

The voices argued
tugging fourth and back,
Until with my hand,
I gave my forehead a smack.

“I’ll go with plaid!” I shouted.
then made it so.
Who knew it would be such a challenge,
to pick the color of a bow?
