a.k.a The Dystopic Revolution

“Settle down people! I know this is exciting, but we need to get started. I am glad so many PEOPLE have joined us to hear the plan for our new great Godly nation. So let us begin! “

The tumultuous crowd settled a bit, consolidating there excited focus on The Speaker instead of each other.

“This is the preamble: We The People …”

With those words, the energy level jumped again. Many voices exclaimed in excitement at the same time. A few caught the orator’s attention, causing him to pause and look around.

Woman: “Ooooh this is so exciting!
Person of color: “I can’t wait for this!”
Poor person: “Things are going to change for the better now!”

“Just a moment please!” Summoning an assistant, The Speaker whispered, “who let the livestock in? They should be removed immediately! This is not for them!”

The assistant immediately signaled to roughs and toughs at the various entrances, indicating that said undesirables should be removed instantly. The rest of the crowd looked on with quite a few nods of approval mixed with laughter. Shortly the only faces to be seen were wealthy elder Caucasian gentleman and their various collections of correctly pigmented male sycophants and thugs.

One of the guardian thugs approached. “Sir, there is an acceptable looking foreign gentleman at the door who wishes to join, should we let him in? He is here with his pregnant wife.”

“If he fills out the proper paperwork and has money, he may join us. If he has lots of money, then the paperwork is optional. His wife, of course, cannot, but her unborn child is welcome too.”

A short, rather unpleasant tussle later …

“Let me begin again. We the People, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense …”

At this point, several more voices were raised, again causing The Speaker to pause. “Is there a problem gentlemen?” he asked with mild annoyance.

“We have something to say about that!” one man proclaimed with heat, and many applauded, the loudest being the roughs and toughs.

The Speaker nodded. Looking around at the sea of patriarchal arrogant whiteness before him he said, “Of course! Everyone HERE has the right to say whatever they desire. That is part of the new plan!”

His assistant cleared his throat. “Um sir, we haven’t actually included that in the document.”

The Speaker looked nonplussed for the moment. then he said, “A mere oversight. we expected there might be a few changes as suggested by the PEOPLE before us. We’ll just call this the first amendment.” Scribbling a note on a piece of paper, he continued, “So sir, what is it you wanted to say?”

“With regards to the common defense, I think we all need guns …”

AND SO BEGAN A JOURNEY INTO THE ABSURD.

I am Jewish.

I have no interest in religion. I personally think it is one of the worse inventions that came out of the mind of man. But I was raised in the Jewish tradition, and it is part of my history, a history of which I am NOT ashamed.

Because of this simple fact, certain people hate me.

When I was a child, there were some in my neighborhood who would physically attack me, simply because I was Jewish. Wise minds, believers in compassion, would tell me to ignore them, they will just go away.

So I ignored them, until the next time they jumped me, beat me, screaming nonsense like “You killed Jesus!”.

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

So I ignored them, until one threw a rock at me, hitting me in the skull giving a scar that I still bear today.

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

So I ignored them, until the rock thrower’s mother attacked MY mother, while his brother held a knife to my throat saying “I will kill you if you do anything to help her.”

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

So I ignored them, until the knife wielder picked a fight with me in the school yard, calling me kike. I stood my ground, with a fellow Jewish boy willing to defend. The principle pulls US into the office. “Stay away from him, he is psychotic.” As far as I know, nothing was done to him.

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

So I ignored them, until the same psycho, decided to light my shirt on fire in the middle of homeroom in high school.

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

So I ignored them. Twenty plus years later, a young man goes on a killing spree in the name of ethnic cleansing or some such nonsense. He is the son of the boy who did all those things to me.

“Ignore them, they will just go away.”

Guess what folks. We’ve been ignoring them for over 40 years. They have NOT gone away. Maybe it is time we STOP ignoring them, and actually DO SOMETHING.

POTENTIAL

adjective: having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.

noun: latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.

In physics, potential refers to the amount of work necessary to bring something from A to B, A and B defined by what you are measuring. (This is a very LOOSE definition).

THE CHALLENGE:

Anyone observing humanity will note that humans have GREAT potential. This sounds like a positive trait until we look more closely at this potential. Humans have a great capacity to create. We have a limitless imagination, which allows us to constantly break beyond limits that were previously considered inviolate. This is a good thing. However we have an equal capacity to destroy, with the same backing of that limitless imagination.

Our potential can be quite dangerous.

Having potential and converting that potential to something of practical value are two different things. Physically, potential is how much work is needed to achieve a specific goal, but until that work is applied, the goal remains nothing more than a possibility. This applies to the human condition as well; we have great potential both for the good and the not so good, but unless we put the work in that potential will never really mean anything to ourselves and our world. If, and how, we use our potential is a matter of choice. We each have to decide if we are WILLING to do the best we can do. We also have the choice of HOW we use our abilities. Until we make those choices, our potential will remain in the realm of the imagination.

The HOW choice is often the most difficult one, especially when it comes to who benefits. This is the issue that really divides us. On one side we have those who think that all our actions should ultimately benefit ourselves … the rest of humanity … and even the world … be damned. The flip side of this is those who believe that the needs of the many far surpass the needs of the few or the one, and that should guide our actions. The ongoing conflict in our world is a direct result of these deferring extremes.

Unfortunately, those who lean towards selfishness tend to run the show for one simple reason  … they are willing to do what is necessary to achieve their goals. To such people, compassion is a weakness. Those who work for the many are driven by compassion, which means there are actions they simply will not take for success. How can someone who has moral limits actually stop someone who will do anything that meets their needs?

That is the uphill battle that those who seek a compassionate world continually face. Sometimes the climb can seem so difficult as to be not worth the effort.

THE SOLUTION:

I don’t have a specific answer to the above question. The dark turn humanity has taken in recent years damaged my own resolve. I failed to live up to my OWN potential of late, which does no one any good. How do we fight for compassion when those who have none are in charge; when a majority of people WILLINGLY let such people make choices for them because it is so much easier than actually making their own choices? Thus this project, and others I have started, aimlessly drifted.

Until I was reminded that the only way to FIND a solution is to focus on finding solutions. If we focus on the problem we will never get anywhere. Not doing anything is as good as admitting defeat. The heartless will always win if the compassionate simply roll over and let them. If we want the world to become a more compassionate one, we have to continually remind people WHAT compassion is. But we have to also remind OURSELVES that being compassionate does NOT mean letting others with no limits do as they will. Oppression can only exist if the oppressed let it. The same applies to tyrannical rule. We have to recognize that sometimes we must do what is necessary ourselves. Hoping someone who has no compassion will suddenly come into it if we ask enough times is nothing more than naiveté. We have to recognize that SOMETIMES we may have to do things that we do not like to get anywhere. But we also need to remember such choices should always be a LAST resort.

That said, there are a few things we can focus on:

  • Cooperation – the best chance to overcome selfish individuals who have a strong power base is COOPERATION. They only have a strong power base because others support them. Therefore we have to support each other in opposition. If we create a larger and stronger compassion based community than change WILL happen.
  • Do what you can do – when we constantly find the ‘bad’ guy winning, it is easy to feel that our efforts are wasted, so why bother. The simple truth is that nothing can be achieved if not at least ATTEMPTED. Don’t focus on what we can not do, but rather on what we CAN do.
  • Be flexible – don’t lock on one path. If one thing does not seem to work, maybe we need to approach it from a different angle. Don’t give up. Just rethink.
  • Educate, don’t pontificate – the only way to teach someone who does not want to be taught is to demonstrate. Don’t try to convince someone who does not want to be convinced. Just show them they are wrong. Either they will open their eyes, or they will suffer the consequences of their own willful blindness. Either way, don’t waste your energy on them.

When darkness threatens, a single candle will provide light. A single candle can also light other candles. If enough candles are lit, the darkness will no longer be there.

Today, when my dog woke me for her morning walk, it was dark. The sun had not yet risen, and the clouds were heavy. But the darkness also emanated from within; a shadow on my very spirit. Yesterday was 11/8/2016, Election Day in the US. It was the culmination of a bitter battle … one that represented more than just a political struggle for choosing the leaders of a nation. It was a test of the soul of humanity, one that will have unknown effects for the WHOLE of humanity in the years to come. And in my mind, a test that we failed … miserably.

I am not alone in this feeling. Many were just a stunned as I was to find that so many of our fellow humans fell short of our expectations. Many of us are in shock; numb or in pain; feeling as if the floor had fallen from beneath our feet. We also feel anger, the need to blame, to fight back despite also feeling helpless. How dare they?! How dare they let their fear and anger; their distrust and dissatisfaction govern their choices to such an extent that we have given our great country to Frankenstein AND the monster he created? What happened to goodness and decency? I too felt the rage and disquiet. I too asked these questions. And I have an answer for you.

WE DID.

Trump operated by prodding the darkness that resides in each of us, and we want to blame those that succumbed to the resultant emotions, deeming ourselves so much better than they are. We find it so easy to believe that they are all hateful bigots, because a master manipulator knew how to bring this darkness to the surface. We want someone to blame, so we throw all of these people into a group, claiming they all share certain characteristics, little realizing that we are doing exactly what we believe makes them so despicable.

Intolerance, bigotry, blind hatred based on the flimsiest of criteria did not suddenly appear because Trump started shouting about them. They exist because we live in a society in which educators are at the bottom of the respect pool, while entertainers are at the top. They exist because we live in a society that defines moral character by how much we own or what dogma we follow rather than  by the choices we make and actions we take. They exist because many of us who would remove them from our culture have fallen complacent, instead of doing our part to change mindsets.

Stop blaming ALL Trump supporters for standing true to their beliefs, as wrongheaded as we may find them. Sure some of them are not nice people. But poor character is not defined by the political party one belongs to. It is not defined by where one lives, or even the level of education one has. It is simply defined by how one acts. There are just as many people who did NOT support Trump who behave badly. Before we judge others for THEIR behavior, maybe we should take a good look in the mirror first.

And while we are looking in the mirror, maybe we should own up to our own responsibility in the continued existence of the more reprehensible of human character traits. How much effort have we taken to change such mindsets? How firm are we in actually showing our support in the “real” world? It’s one thing to SAY “I support!”, quite another to demonstrate it in day-to-day life. When was the last time you called out someone for a disrespectful joke? When was the last time you defended someone who was disrespected … even if only marginally? Have you ever asked someone you considered a bigot WHY they felt that way? Have you ever tried to shift their perspective instead of just judging THEM for judging others?

If the society we live in has shifted in a direction that we do not like, WE are as responsible as those who embrace the “wrong” way if we have not put all of our effort into CHANGING things. Trump won because his supporters stood strong in their support. This is to be admired, even if we disagree with their ideals and dislike them personally. If we had been as strong, then maybe the vote would have gone differently. And don’t start hiding your head in the sand or trying to escape because we failed to shift the balance. That is why we failed in the first place. Fight back. Don’t just let the “bad” guys get their way. Fight back. Don’t moan and whimper. Fight back. That is what Trump’s supporters did, when THEIR ideal world was taken out from under them. If you don’t like their world, fight for yours.

Stand strong. Or admit defeat.

He is an activist in an organization in Uganda called Equality Heals Africa. This organization is devoted to creating a world where no one is marginalized, where blind hatred and discrimination based on such things as appearance, sexual orientation, or lifestyle no longer exists. This is a big issue in Uganda (and many other African nations), where the hatred often leads to violence and abuse. Through education, activism, and direct support for those in harms way, they hope to shift Uganda to a more accepting and tolerant society. I suggested that he write a blog post to let us know about EHA, but he is busy preparing for Pride Uganda, an event supporting the LGBTQ community in the region, which is rather difficult since such activities are actually illegal in Uganda. He asked that I post for him, which I am glad to do. I will share the mission statement of Equality Heals Africa to share their dream in their own words:[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][featurebox]

What We Do

Our Vision

We envision a Country and Continent where all people are equally empowered and living free from discrimination, invisibility, violence and isolation.

Our Mission

To empower, equip and liberate all those at the margins of the society through education, capacity building, vocational skills in order to resist dependence-syndrome while defending their rights in this volatile situation where the community conspires to make them misfits or second-class citizens.

As indicated above, part of EHA’s target group are persons doubly marginalized in that the few who manage to escape often find that conditions in their countries of transit are not much better than those they fled. They are often targeted for violence by local authorities or civilians. The scant survival resources normally available to other refugees are often closed off to them. Therefore, the Organization affirms the need to ensure that any official body handling the beneficiaries who choose to is able to understand the myriad issues and manage these cases sensitively and appropriately.

It has become evident that most refugees, sheltering in UNHCR camps, despite the difficult conditions, think that at least they can find solace in the fact that they have escaped the persecution that sent them there in the first place, but sometimes they discover that the reality is quity different. In some cases they find themselves living in deplorable conditions; sick, beaten down, fed unsustainable food, and their bleak existence exacerbated not only by a slow resettlement process (it seems that the process can take from 2 to 3 years), but by enduring persecution at the hands of the general camp population.

EHA in full sight of this humiliating situation, networks line groups, agencies and NGOs working with refugees in Uganda and Kenya to share examples of good practice through our portal in the hope it will help others to improve approaches and lead to safety for the many beneficiaries/ refugees currently fighting for their survival.

The Multifaceted Goal Of EHA:

  • To ensure full realization of fair treatment and overall acceptance of all humans beings
  • To provide and cultivate support, resources and advocacy to the victims of discrimination, hate and isolation.
  • We are committed to every person’s right to live in violence free home and have a specific focus towards addressing the cultural hiccups in determining gender equality and equity.
  • To restore and recover the lost hope of all victims of discrimination who are currently invisible in Uganda and Africa in general.
  • To recognize and avert the absence of accessible emergency services for the victims of rape and defilement
  • To educate, motivate, and mobilize youth to improve their own lives and communities so as to become subject-experts of their own problems, challenges and solutions to overcome them.
  • To provide preventative and educational programs to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs among the key populations……hence improving their health status.
  • To challenge and end all forms of discrimination, bullying and isolation.
  • To create, maintain and sustain an equal society.

We would like to thank you for your precious time shared with us when you chose to visit our site and indeed success will always stay in our hands once we are committed to detect and completely decimate or destroy all forms of discrimination. We all have priorities. What those priorities are, and how we arrive at them varies, but we all have them. Some priorities are inherent, shared by all … for instance the survival instinct. We may be able to choose to override such priorities, but at a serious cost to ourselves. However what makes each of us unique is the priorities we CHOOSE for ourselves, the ones that define who we are, and how we interact with the world. How do these priorities develop? The choices we make are shaped by many factors. How were we raised? What challenges have we faced in life? How much compassion do we have? How much empathy? It is the range of answers to these question that create the variety in this wondrous world of ours … and is also what often divides us.

Let’s focus on compassion and empathy. Empathy directly effects how we relate to others. If we have no empathy, we cannot truly relate. Some are born without it, some have it stripped from them. Conversely, compassion is a potential we all carry within us. Even those who lack empathy can show compassion. Compassion is a CHOICE we are all offered. When our priorities are compassion driven, they are inclusive; life affirming. When we remove compassion from our choices, then they risk becoming selfish and divisive. Sadly, this happens all to often in the world. Many think that THEIR priorities are more important than others, based on criteria they defined themselves. People with this mindset will often force their priorities on others who do not agree without any consideration of how it might effect the other people. It is this kind of mindset that essentially causes ALL the conflict in the world. It is this kind of mindset that PAX Nation opposes.

Compassion is the driving force behind PAX Nation. Compassion is essentially what drives ANY individual or group that wishes to bring unity to the world instead of the persistent division that currently exists. But what exactly IS compassion? It is much more than just being kind or forgiving. Some see compassion as weakness … proving they do not truly understand the concept. How can we embrace it if we don’t UNDERSTAND it? Enter The Charter for Compassion:

The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

The Charter for Compassion was developed by an organization that is devoted to reeducating the world in the true meaning of compassion. To this end, they created a document that clearly sates what compassion really means to each of us. By signing The Charter, we commit ourselves to not only upholding these concepts … but actively spreading them throughout our communities. Since this is the ultimate goal of PAX Nation, we have just officially signed The Charter, and created a partnership that will hopefully blossom as we rewrite our future.

Whether you are a citizen of PAX Nation, or just passing through, compassion is definitely part of your makeup. If you want to show your commitment to creating a compassionate world, SIGN THE CHARTER. Take it one step further, and get your community involved! Together, we can truly make a difference!

What role does economy play in a society?

These are two seemingly simple questions, but it just may be that the answers could well determine the path that humanity as a whole will ultimately follow. Essentially there are two choices for both questions. Control or service. Are governments meant to rule over others, or should they be there to serve others? Are economies tools for the growth of society, or is society a tool for the growth of the economy?

Civilization has been experimenting with many different answers to these questions, resulting in a whole slew of -cracies and -isms determined to define the path of humanity. And none have seriously done the trick yet, for humanity is no closer to being a cohesive whole than it was two thousand years ago. So what is the problem? Why can’t we get it right? What are the correct answers?

To me the problem is not which is the correct theory, but rather what we find truly important. Governments basically fall into two categories … those that believe certain individuals are more important than others based on such criteria as how much is owned or perhaps circumstances of birth, and those that believe all individuals have equal value to a society. The first places more value on possessions and power, viewing humanity as just another resource. To such governments, society serves the government. The second choice places more value on life, viewing government as a way to protect and serve all life equally. Economies fall into the same categories. They either view humanity as a means to an end, just tools to promote the economies, or the economies are the tools themselves, to be USED by humanity for the growth of society.

We have gotten our priorities so mixed up, that we confuse economies with forms of government, focusing more on the ideas they represent then the purpose they serve. We get so focused on the ideas that they start becoming dogma, to the point that government and economic theories start taking on the semblance of religion, complete with their own share of rabid zealots.

What's being held, or what doing the holding?
What’s being held, or what’s doing the holding?

Meanwhile society continues to suffer.

No form of government … no economy … will EVER be successful until humanity as a whole starts AGREEING on what it values most. Either things and power are what is important, or LIFE is. It is not my place to tell anyone which is the correct answer, though I am sure it is pretty clear which my choice would be. But  as long as we are split between these two opposite views, we will NEVER obtain peace in the world. So I put a few more questions your way. Do you place more value on owning things? Do you believe worth is determined by how much one has? Or by other equally arbitrary criteria? Or do you believe all life has equal value, and therefore deserves equal treatment?

Do you believe competition is more important than cooperation?

Do the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few? Or are the few what is truly important?

Do you value things, or life?

Which idea do YOU think would be more productive for humanity as a whole?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

This is possibly one of the most insightful videos I have seen in a long time. It also resonates with ideas I have often tried to express lately, basically saying it in a way that I have failed to accomplish. Thus I share it here, and add a few thoughts of my own that it helped inspire.

The simple truth beautifully expressed here can only be willfully denied. ALL of the issues humans have against other humans stem from our need to label, our need to separate the world into US and THEM. Why do we find this need so compelling? Why do we have to fit everyone each into their own little box, and then insist the box defines them? Again the answer really is a simple one.

Fear.

We fear the unknown. We fear that which we do not understand. We fear that which pushes us against the walls of our OWN little box, that others placed us in and we willingly accept. We fear stepping outside the comfort zone.

We are a world governed by fear.

And those who would control, those who would manipulate others for their own personal gain, capitalize on this. Feeding the fear strengthens it. Fearful people are much easier to manipulate, especially if one gives them a way to feel protected. Give them armor to hide behind, weapons to fight with … and the fearful suddenly think they are strong. Then we can use this false hubris to spread the fear even further, dividing more and generating self-fulfilling prophesies of endless despair.

We seed these fears with ideas. And when the ideas become so firmly rooted that we no longer recognize them as ideas, we start blaming the holders of the ideas for all that is wrong with the world, and don’t even question the ideas themselves. We seem to think by eradicating anyone with an idea that does not work for us we eliminate the idea, and all will be well. But the ideas live on, and all the killing does is ensure others will latch on to the idea, if only because they don’t like OUR ideas.

The only true terrorists in the world are those who promote ideas that embrace death. This is not defined by any religion, or nationality, or “race”, or any other label we choose to place on another. This is defined by personal choice. If you believe that inciting fear in another is productive for humanity, and actually act on such beliefs, then in my mind you are a terrorist.

Which takes more courage? Which is a better expression of strength? Opening your arms to another, even thought they may be different, even though they may be a potential threat, or hiding from them behind thick walls and weapons of destruction, thus ensuring that common ground will never be found? Who is the weaker person, one who is willing to embrace someone for their differences, DESPITE fear, or those who let fear guide them, continuing the endless and unproductive cycle that it generates?

Don't let fear win ... break out, be the butterfly!
Don’t let fear win … break out, be the butterfly!

The ONLY way to end fear is understanding. And the ONLY path to understanding is an open mind and a willingness to learn. Weapons are not a tool of learning. Walls are not a tool of learning. Labels are not a tool of learning. Learning comes from opening our eyes, not closing them. Understanding only happens with a WILLINGNESS to understand. When we let fear rule, we are basically CHOOSING not to try to understand. When fear rules, we let others do our thinking for us.

End the fear. Learn. Think.

Understand.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I believe that we are capable of just about anything if we set our heart and minds to achieving a specific goal. This potential becomes even more powerful when we work together for a common goal. I believe in humanity.

That said, humanity still has a lot of growing to do. We are like little children, pursuing whatever makes us happy, yet throwing tantrums when we cannot get our way. We will do what we are told if told forcefully enough, otherwise we do what fulfills our desires … and MAYBE feel bad about it if someone else gets hurt in the process, especially if we are called out on it. And we pretty much believe whatever we are told. That is much easier than figuring things out for ourselves.

When a child first opens their senses to the world, there is no fear, no hatred, no categorizing … only simple wonder and curiosity. Sure they may react by crying, but that is ironically more from the change in circumstances. They have been taken out of a relatively comfortable and peaceful environment and suddenly thrust into overwhelming … CHANGE. Of course this causes a reaction. Fear, judgement, separation … that is all taught to the child. And how we react to these negative influences on our growth is the true testament to our character as human beings. Do we respond instinctively, as the child does when change is suddenly thrust upon them, or do we actually CHOOSE our own reaction?

Love or hate? When is it time to decide?
Love or hate? When is it time to decide?

Or do we let someone else decide for us?

The sad truth is, all too many of us either react instinctively, or let someone else do the choosing for us. We need to reclaim our own minds, and learn to take responsibility for our OWN growth as human beings. We need to stop letting those who would divide the world to promote their own personal agendas dictate our morality, when the simple truth of the matter is we all entered the world the same way. Everything after that is really just ideas being thrust on us by the rest of the world. It is up to US how we let those ideas shape us.

It comes down to this. Either life is precious and worth protecting or it is not. The value of a life has nothing to do with the circumstances that the life lives under. It has nothing to do with where it is lived. It has nothing to do with the physical differences, or any of the other superficial differences that separatists use to place more value on one life than another for their own gain. We either value life or we don’t.

I am not here to tell anyone how they should think. That is up to each of us. But please don’t tell me that you value life if you can so easily dismiss one life as having less value than another simply because of arbitrary boundaries designed by man. Or because they fall into a category that is somehow unacceptable. to us, as dictated by others who tell us what is acceptable and what is not. There is only one reason that poverty and hunger exists in this world. It is because those in power do not truly value life. There is only one reason that refugees exist. Because those in power do not truly value life. Stop blaming the victims for the actions of those who victimize them. And don’t tell me how strong you are when your strength lies behind locked doors and weapons. Not helping another because of the possibility of risk to yourself is nothing other than placing the value of your life as higher than theirs. And who exactly are YOU to make such a judgement?

The actions of OUR governments are the cause of homelessness and the refugee crisis. Whether the person in need is a starving child, a discarded veteran, or a family fleeing for their own safety is immaterial. The ultimate cause is the same people. So don’t deny one group of lives in need because you think another group deserves the help more. Help them ALL. And remove the causes from power.

We either value life or we do not. It is time we make our OWN choices.

This is not just paranoid delusion, or drama for effect. This is an observable phenomenon for anybody with awareness. The runaway speed of technology has made this a possibility as never before … simply because information exchange is almost instantaneous these days. The path we are following now will ultimately end in ruin and chaos if we refuse to step off of it.

Catastrophe is not inevitable though. We can still choose alternate paths; find alternative futures to embrace. The key word there is CHOOSE. There is no single individual who will alter the full course for billions. There is no magic wand or cure-all that will suddenly make things right. The ONLY way to alter our future is to choose to do so. Humanity as a whole has to make the choice to change our course … which ultimately means individual humans must so choose.

The real issue is we are not necessarily all aiming for the same “better” world.

Before we can obtain such grand and beautiful concepts as PEACE, we have to be on the same page as to what we actually MEAN by the idea. Seems that is where we keep dropping the ball. What does peace actually mean anyway? Is it a removal of all violence and negativity? Just an end of war? Is it only achievable by removing difference … creating a set cast of characters? Maybe the simple removal of the human race? Until we can mutually agree on what the goal actually IS, it will be a very hard goal to achieve.

Here is what recent months has taught ME what peace is. It is NOT and end of negativity. It is not an absence or denial of anything. Rather it is coming to terms with all aspects of life and dealing with them in a respectful and rational way. Instead of searching for alternatives based on greed or anger or any of a slew of negative triggers, we find alternatives that leave us restful and knowing that the vast majority have ultimately benefited.

Humans define the world by opposites. So how can we achieve anything by trying to remove its opposite? We cannot know light without darkness. We cannot know pain without pleasure. So how can we know “peace” without “war”? Peace is that moment when all of the stressors in life are balanced … both the positive and the negative. Humanity cannot progress forward without some negative influences. If everything were “perfect”, what incentive for growth and improvement would there be? No. Peace is not an END to strife and diversity. That would simply be stagnation. Peace is the completion of the circle; it is bringing all parts together to find a whole that is sustainable for all. If we could measure the spiritual health of humanity on a scale, we would find that it is so far out of balance that the scale might just break. Peace is the return to balance.

Maybe when we all get on the same page on WHAT we are looking for we have a chance of finding it?
