Update time!
While I am still slacking in the training and funding departments, progress HAS been made. Not sure I can take any credit for it, but forward is forward. Maybe my strategic begging worked, but I have a new partner … for the first part of the hike anyway. I would like to introduce …
tadum tadum tadum tadum …
Jeff H., Newbie Idiot
Jeff lives with his family live is South Carolina, only a few hours away from Springer Mountain, where we will be starting the adventure. His goal at the moment is to go at least to Harper’s Ferry, which is the kind of traditional “Am I going to make the whole hike?” break off spot. His family, wisely, did not want him to go alone, so he settled for an Idiot as a partner. I look forward to getting to know him better, and getting my hike on with him! I am still open for partners beyond Harper’s Ferry, Having multiple partners might make it more interesting even. And who nows, Jeff might find that he wants to continue at that point!
Jeff just bought himself a new backpack, and he made what seems to me to be a very good choice (not the least because we can get it at about half price), so I just bought the same one. I will give ya more details when it comes! Jeff himself isn’t really a blogger, but he does not mind me blasting his name about. So everybody say hi!
The countdown is going mighty quickly these days. So all of you folks out there who somehow don’t even know this blog exists gotta get on the ball and start donating. Don’t ask me how you are all supposed to know this. That is not MY area of expertise!

Ya know, my mother taught me that the most important things in life are free. So you can have all the support, information, and encouragement I can give you. Money? Dude, I’m so poor, I can’t even pay attention! 😀
Seriously, if any of my re-enacting camping info is of help, I’m glad to privide. Heck, I can probably dig up some of my re-enacting gear (natural fiber woven material) if you need it, including steel canteens with no glass in them, so you can heat them over a fire. Let me know what I can do for you!
Now that I am actually starting to gather equipment, I’ll have a better idea of what I really need. I will definitely let you know!! Thanks! 🙂
Welcome Jeff! So glad that Steve will have someone along with him to ward off the bigfoots and the dentally-challenged mountain people found along the trail. Hopefully you will be able to continue on past HF and you and the Steve-Meister can drag each other up Katahdin. (As long as the Govt is funded and the parks are open by then………) 🙂
Well if they can’t afford to pay any rangers, who is gonna stop us? haha
