CAR!

I was going to write a biting yet hilarious post about the silliness of the whole Daylight Savings Time phenomenon. Well as biting ands hilarious as I can manage any way, which ""is debatable. The post was going to be called "Maybe if I were a cow …" and was going to point out that as far as I can tell, nobody actually benefits from changing the clocks except maybe cows, and I am pretty sure that they don’t actually give a moo.

But as I was sitting down, preparing to write this clever laugh-a-minute post, struggling to come up with the motivation to actually get the words out because it feels like the day is over despite only being 5:30 pm (damn clock changes and approaching winter grrrrrrrrr), I was hit by one of those painful yet fun flashbacks that randomly smack you upside the head when you least expect them.

Eerie music plays and everything gets wishy-washy for a moment. (Hey we are flashing back folks!)

A large group of kids of all ages is playing dodgeball in a street of a busy campground. This energetic group just finished a several day stretch of canoeing and is resting up for some more. The "kids" are a bit on the wild side, but also fairly respectful of the others in the campground. If a car goes by, someone will shout "CAR!" and they will all get out of the way. One of this wild bunch has a clever idea. We’ll just pretend it is me (It probably was. I am know for my warped sense of humor.). He recalls a Farside cartoon that it would be fun to emulate. So he gathers his fellow dodgeball enthusiasts and lays out the plan. They all agree it might be a good laugh so play along enthusiastically.

The next time a car comes along, someone again shouts "CAR!" This time everyone runs to the side of the road, gets on their hands and knees and starts loudly bellowing "MOO!"

The first couple that drives by is an elderly couple. They roll up their windows and kind of huddle towards the center of the car, stepping on the gas. The sentence "Roll up your windows Martha these people are crazy!" may or may not have been heard. As soon as the car passes, the "cows" return to their dodgeball game, until the next car comes along.

Eerie music again and more of that wishy-washiness … and we are back.

Ah, the good old days!
