I had a dream, and I started working towards it. This is pretty much how ANY idea becomes a reality. Such is life, though, that sometimes, even as we pursue them, our dreams change. Maybe the change is a simple evolution of the dream as we get a clearer picture of the final goal.  Maybe our priorities change, and our dreams are modified to match our new priorities. Or maybe we come to understand that we do not necessarily have the tools to make the dream come true, and we have to change our focus. In such cases, we either need to work on getting the necessary tools, or be willing to alter the dream. Whatever causes the change in direction, the truth remains the same … paths shift.

PAX Nation is one BIG dream, and I entered the path towards it realizing that it may never be more than just an idealistic fantasy. However I am not one to shy from a task that I believe in just because it supposedly can’t be done. The modern world is DEFINED by people doing what they were told they couldn’t do. I still believe that nationalism has over-stayed its welcome. I still believe that the best hope for humanity’s continued growth is to embrace compassion and cooperation. I wholeheartedly believe in the concept of One World, One People … even if it is not triggered by my crazy little project.

Yet I realize that many do not agree with my view of the world … all too often those who have the power to influence the path of civilization. I also realize that I am really a nobody with grand ideas. This is not self-deprecation … just a full understanding of who I am. I have few resources and very little influence with anyone who has a power base of any sort. With effort and a fair amount of good luck, this could always change, but my general ineffectiveness is my current reality, and has been for quite some time. I am a very capable person … alone that is rarely enough to change the world. I have been working on this idea of mine for several years now, with varying degrees of devotion, and what I have arrived at is essentially a community of one with high aims and a decent website. As one might imagine, this is quite frustrating. With the rather depressing trend of the United States (and much of the rest of the world for that matter) towards selfish and greed based governance, I found myself feeling pretty powerless. Powerless to the point of giving up on working on just about everything I believe in.

It goes without saying (yet say it I will), GIVING UP on life is no way to live. I wrestled with my demons through the winter months, and came out on top. My last post was kind of my victory shout. Now I am working on taking my own advice (often a challenge), Instead of focusing on what I cannot do, I am once again working with what I CAN do. My greatest skills are understanding and creating. So that is what I will continue to do. I will continue to create, for the sake of creation itself. I will continue to keep compassion alive through my ability to understand others. I am NOT giving up on PAX Nation. But I am modifying the dream as needed.

My nation may only be a nation of one, but it is a nation that welcomes ANYONE who seeks to be here. PAX Nation will continue to grow … within the limits of my own resources and abilities … but grow it will. If I cannot offer armies of world changers, then I will offer what I CAN. Sanctuary. If you want a place to step away from the strife of a contentious world, welcome to PAX Nation. If  … by visiting … you find some needed help, then you are welcome to it. If you find that this sanctuary has a sense of home about it, you are welcome to stay. Those who would control others for their own dark needs will never truly be victorious as long as even ONE person remains to oppose them. If all I can offer is a breath of fresh air, then fresh air is what I will give. And if my sanctuary manages to grow in resources and influence, LOOK OUT WORLD!

In the mean time, the door is always open …

Sometimes, all we need is a place to feel safe.

POTENTIAL

adjective: having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.

noun: latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.

In physics, potential refers to the amount of work necessary to bring something from A to B, A and B defined by what you are measuring. (This is a very LOOSE definition).

THE CHALLENGE:

Anyone observing humanity will note that humans have GREAT potential. This sounds like a positive trait until we look more closely at this potential. Humans have a great capacity to create. We have a limitless imagination, which allows us to constantly break beyond limits that were previously considered inviolate. This is a good thing. However we have an equal capacity to destroy, with the same backing of that limitless imagination.

Our potential can be quite dangerous.

Having potential and converting that potential to something of practical value are two different things. Physically, potential is how much work is needed to achieve a specific goal, but until that work is applied, the goal remains nothing more than a possibility. This applies to the human condition as well; we have great potential both for the good and the not so good, but unless we put the work in that potential will never really mean anything to ourselves and our world. If, and how, we use our potential is a matter of choice. We each have to decide if we are WILLING to do the best we can do. We also have the choice of HOW we use our abilities. Until we make those choices, our potential will remain in the realm of the imagination.

The HOW choice is often the most difficult one, especially when it comes to who benefits. This is the issue that really divides us. On one side we have those who think that all our actions should ultimately benefit ourselves … the rest of humanity … and even the world … be damned. The flip side of this is those who believe that the needs of the many far surpass the needs of the few or the one, and that should guide our actions. The ongoing conflict in our world is a direct result of these deferring extremes.

Unfortunately, those who lean towards selfishness tend to run the show for one simple reason  … they are willing to do what is necessary to achieve their goals. To such people, compassion is a weakness. Those who work for the many are driven by compassion, which means there are actions they simply will not take for success. How can someone who has moral limits actually stop someone who will do anything that meets their needs?

That is the uphill battle that those who seek a compassionate world continually face. Sometimes the climb can seem so difficult as to be not worth the effort.

THE SOLUTION:

I don’t have a specific answer to the above question. The dark turn humanity has taken in recent years damaged my own resolve. I failed to live up to my OWN potential of late, which does no one any good. How do we fight for compassion when those who have none are in charge; when a majority of people WILLINGLY let such people make choices for them because it is so much easier than actually making their own choices? Thus this project, and others I have started, aimlessly drifted.

Until I was reminded that the only way to FIND a solution is to focus on finding solutions. If we focus on the problem we will never get anywhere. Not doing anything is as good as admitting defeat. The heartless will always win if the compassionate simply roll over and let them. If we want the world to become a more compassionate one, we have to continually remind people WHAT compassion is. But we have to also remind OURSELVES that being compassionate does NOT mean letting others with no limits do as they will. Oppression can only exist if the oppressed let it. The same applies to tyrannical rule. We have to recognize that sometimes we must do what is necessary ourselves. Hoping someone who has no compassion will suddenly come into it if we ask enough times is nothing more than naiveté. We have to recognize that SOMETIMES we may have to do things that we do not like to get anywhere. But we also need to remember such choices should always be a LAST resort.

That said, there are a few things we can focus on:

  • Cooperation – the best chance to overcome selfish individuals who have a strong power base is COOPERATION. They only have a strong power base because others support them. Therefore we have to support each other in opposition. If we create a larger and stronger compassion based community than change WILL happen.
  • Do what you can do – when we constantly find the ‘bad’ guy winning, it is easy to feel that our efforts are wasted, so why bother. The simple truth is that nothing can be achieved if not at least ATTEMPTED. Don’t focus on what we can not do, but rather on what we CAN do.
  • Be flexible – don’t lock on one path. If one thing does not seem to work, maybe we need to approach it from a different angle. Don’t give up. Just rethink.
  • Educate, don’t pontificate – the only way to teach someone who does not want to be taught is to demonstrate. Don’t try to convince someone who does not want to be convinced. Just show them they are wrong. Either they will open their eyes, or they will suffer the consequences of their own willful blindness. Either way, don’t waste your energy on them.

When darkness threatens, a single candle will provide light. A single candle can also light other candles. If enough candles are lit, the darkness will no longer be there.

It is not just about like minded people socializing, but rather coming together in an effort to actively change the world. Everyone here has their priorities, but we also accept and support the priorities of others. The goal is to actively support each other. It might be as simple as a thumbs up, or as involved as physically helping by working an event. The whole point is to share our efforts … even if we have different specific goals. I am working on the social community aspects to help make this sharing easier, but there are other methods of sharing resources that need to be explored and expanded upon.

The seeds for a Marketplace have already been planted, but what about a form of currency for the nation? That seed has now too been planted, in the form of a Time Bank . So what is a Time Bank?

Essentially, the goal is to step away from this dependency on money to achieve everything. Money is a useful tool, but it is not the ONLY tool, and should not be the ultimate determining factor in the feasibility of a project … let alone a decider of the worth of the project’s participants. The seed that has been planted is to create a barter economy, with the primary unit of exchange being time rather than money. Ultimately, someone using their time for another is the most valuable resource there is. Our Time Bank is starting with a unit called service minutes, which is just what it sounds like. You can earn and spend time as you will, to help others; to get help from others. The Bank is very simple at the moment, but it will grow into a fully functional economy if we all work together to make it happen. As it grows, other forms of currency will no doubt be needed (including money) and created, with appropriate exchange rates to keep the value of the service/product. The key here is that whatever currency we choose … it is a means to an end … not the end itself. The current bank is not a definitive guide to worth, but rather an incentive to cooperation. It is about helping each other by providing an avenue to do it. This does not mean we can’t cooperate outside this system, nor does it mean we can’t work out other forms of cooperation outside the system. It is just a tool for those who need it. One can earn service minutes just by being an active member of the community. Here is a list of ways to earn by just using the site:[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

No instances found for this point type

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3327″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]One of the best ways to earn service minutes is to write blog posts (120 service minutes each post). You can also earn a lot by encouraging others to join the community. But simply USING the site as it is meant to be used will generate “income”. Everyone also collects 2% “interest” monthly. If we all take advantage of the marketplace, both selling and seeking … a whole economy can … and will develop.

PAX Nation can only work if people get involved. The growth of the nation will ensure the growth of its citizens (as any healthy society should). So by using the resources available here, your will grow as well. I encourage everyone to participate and become active citizens. Considering the recent explosion in activity and exposure in the last few days, it seemed a good time to share this request for help. At the moment, PAX Nation NEEDS more resources than it offers. This WILL change, but any growing community will need resources that are not always readily available.

Help spread the word! It would be great if you added this image to your website (with a link to PAX Nation), someplace where it would be seen but not distract from the main focus of the site.  It would look great on social networking pages too!

The primary resource for PAX Nation is … and always WILL be … active participants. Without caring, INVOLVED people, this is is nothing more than a set of ideals mixed with some progressive ideas. Words and ideas have the power to MOTIVATE, but if not acted upon, they never become more than POTENTIAL. The types of skills needed will grow and evolve as the Nation does. Below is a list of some skill sets we currently could use:

  • Blog writers

All citizens can right blog posts. We need folk to share about their organizations, their communities, their expertise … anything they feel is worth sharing.

  • Forum moderators

Communications are one of the most important tools for cooperation. There are several opportunities for discussion, with the possibility for many more. Moderators will keep things moving and civil.

  • Web Developers

For the community to develop to its full potential, we need IT professionals who can maximize the web functionality.

  • Entrepreneurs

We need business savvy people to help get the backing and resources necessary for the nation to grow.

  • Social Networking Gurus

Social Networking is essential for an online community. With so many out there, we need people dedicated simply to spreading the word and interacting with the many networks.

  • Webmasters

This project will keep growing, most likely eventually becoming a network of sites. Management will require a conscientious team.

I until we establish funding sources and a functional internal economy, all positions will be voluntary. This will change as PAX Nation starts truly taking form.[

Another important resource is ideas. How can we improve the website? The whole plan? How can we help Pax Nation grow? What actions can we take? ANY ideas are worth looking at, and NONE are of any value if not shared.

As much as an ideal world will not be totally dependent on money … this is not yet an ideal world. If it were, PAX Nation would not be needed. Sadly money is a key to growth in our current world culture, and thus a resource that needs to be gathered. The Marketplace is intended to aid this need, but (at the moment anyway) we need other sources. Crowd funding and grants are options that need to be explored. Donations are also an option. If you have ANY resources that can help with funding, please CONTACT US!

WELCOME NEW CITIZENS!!

Apparently signing The Charter for Compassion was the snowflake I needed to start an avalanche. In the last four days, there have literally been as many visits to PAX Nation as in the ENTIRE YEAR until this point. Enough people have registered (and hopefully will continue to) to truly call this a community. I started this project in December of 2012, right after the Sandy Hook shooting. That event kind of tipped the scales with my general dissatisfaction of the course humanity was taking. The idea got a lot of thumbs up at first … with little other support beyond that. Despite the apparent lack of support, and due to my general stubbornness, I have kept at it, with a few extended interruptions (such as an attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail). In recent months, I decided to commit to it fully, and reworked the entire project. Apparently I have learned much of what I needed to learn, and found much of what I needed to find, because I seem to be on the right course finally!

WHAT’S NEW ON THE SITE?

The key to a successful online community is effective communication. Technically, the key to ANY community is effective communication. I have updated the Forum pages, adding some general topics that are issues that those who would change the world need to deal with. I encourage EVERYONE to join any conversation that interests you. Or start one on what is near and dear to you. For PAX Nation to be successful, first we need to start talking with each other!

If anyone wants to moderate or guide conversation, your help would be most welcome. Drop me a line, or post on my profile.

Cooperation is about sharing: sharing resources, sharing ideas, sharing goals. PAX Nation is all about creating a cooperative effort, removing many of the barriers that might prevent this from happening. Check out the slightly modified and expanded resource section. Maybe you want to use the Marketplace. Or learn about Partnership opportunities. If you, or someone you know has some skills to offer and time to spare, see what PAX Nation needs.

Working together is the key to advancing all of our causes. Take advantage. Don’t just be a name on a list!

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

For this idea to have any success, the Citizens need to be active.  Many of you have your own projects to put forward, which is exactly what PAX Nation is about. Here we can connect with like minded people who might have alternate goals, or come from other areas. If somebody needs what we offer, we can connect with them and do what we can to help. If you have needs that you cannot meet elsewhere, maybe they will be met here. But it will only work if we USE the site. Set up your profiles. I will add the capacity for making friends and adding photos and videos shortly. Write a blog post! Tell us about your specific projects, or teach us about your part of the world. And most importantly, TELL OTHERS about PAX Nation. For us to be a truly effective community; for us to actually become a presence in the world, requires that we continue to grow and evolve!

How far can we go?

He is an activist in an organization in Uganda called Equality Heals Africa. This organization is devoted to creating a world where no one is marginalized, where blind hatred and discrimination based on such things as appearance, sexual orientation, or lifestyle no longer exists. This is a big issue in Uganda (and many other African nations), where the hatred often leads to violence and abuse. Through education, activism, and direct support for those in harms way, they hope to shift Uganda to a more accepting and tolerant society. I suggested that he write a blog post to let us know about EHA, but he is busy preparing for Pride Uganda, an event supporting the LGBTQ community in the region, which is rather difficult since such activities are actually illegal in Uganda. He asked that I post for him, which I am glad to do. I will share the mission statement of Equality Heals Africa to share their dream in their own words:[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][featurebox]

What We Do

Our Vision

We envision a Country and Continent where all people are equally empowered and living free from discrimination, invisibility, violence and isolation.

Our Mission

To empower, equip and liberate all those at the margins of the society through education, capacity building, vocational skills in order to resist dependence-syndrome while defending their rights in this volatile situation where the community conspires to make them misfits or second-class citizens.

As indicated above, part of EHA’s target group are persons doubly marginalized in that the few who manage to escape often find that conditions in their countries of transit are not much better than those they fled. They are often targeted for violence by local authorities or civilians. The scant survival resources normally available to other refugees are often closed off to them. Therefore, the Organization affirms the need to ensure that any official body handling the beneficiaries who choose to is able to understand the myriad issues and manage these cases sensitively and appropriately.

It has become evident that most refugees, sheltering in UNHCR camps, despite the difficult conditions, think that at least they can find solace in the fact that they have escaped the persecution that sent them there in the first place, but sometimes they discover that the reality is quity different. In some cases they find themselves living in deplorable conditions; sick, beaten down, fed unsustainable food, and their bleak existence exacerbated not only by a slow resettlement process (it seems that the process can take from 2 to 3 years), but by enduring persecution at the hands of the general camp population.

EHA in full sight of this humiliating situation, networks line groups, agencies and NGOs working with refugees in Uganda and Kenya to share examples of good practice through our portal in the hope it will help others to improve approaches and lead to safety for the many beneficiaries/ refugees currently fighting for their survival.

The Multifaceted Goal Of EHA:

  • To ensure full realization of fair treatment and overall acceptance of all humans beings
  • To provide and cultivate support, resources and advocacy to the victims of discrimination, hate and isolation.
  • We are committed to every person’s right to live in violence free home and have a specific focus towards addressing the cultural hiccups in determining gender equality and equity.
  • To restore and recover the lost hope of all victims of discrimination who are currently invisible in Uganda and Africa in general.
  • To recognize and avert the absence of accessible emergency services for the victims of rape and defilement
  • To educate, motivate, and mobilize youth to improve their own lives and communities so as to become subject-experts of their own problems, challenges and solutions to overcome them.
  • To provide preventative and educational programs to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs among the key populations……hence improving their health status.
  • To challenge and end all forms of discrimination, bullying and isolation.
  • To create, maintain and sustain an equal society.

We would like to thank you for your precious time shared with us when you chose to visit our site and indeed success will always stay in our hands once we are committed to detect and completely decimate or destroy all forms of discrimination. Such a commitment, is the only entry point to a sustainable and equitable society that we all long for, fellow citizens of this universe.[/featurebox][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_empty_space height=”48px”][vc_cta h2=”” h4=”Show your support!” style=”3d” color=”orange” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Go to the site.” btn_align=”center” btn_i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-sign-out” add_icon=”left” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-ambulance” btn_add_icon=”true” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.equalityhealsafrica.org%2F||target:%20_blank|” btn_button_block=”true” btn_custom_onclick=”true” i_on_border=”true”]Do you believe that all people have a right to live productive and healthy lives whatever their circumstance, free from discrimination and hatred? We all have priorities. What those priorities are, and how we arrive at them varies, but we all have them. Some priorities are inherent, shared by all … for instance the survival instinct. We may be able to choose to override such priorities, but at a serious cost to ourselves. However what makes each of us unique is the priorities we CHOOSE for ourselves, the ones that define who we are, and how we interact with the world. How do these priorities develop? The choices we make are shaped by many factors. How were we raised? What challenges have we faced in life? How much compassion do we have? How much empathy? It is the range of answers to these question that create the variety in this wondrous world of ours … and is also what often divides us.

Let’s focus on compassion and empathy. Empathy directly effects how we relate to others. If we have no empathy, we cannot truly relate. Some are born without it, some have it stripped from them. Conversely, compassion is a potential we all carry within us. Even those who lack empathy can show compassion. Compassion is a CHOICE we are all offered. When our priorities are compassion driven, they are inclusive; life affirming. When we remove compassion from our choices, then they risk becoming selfish and divisive. Sadly, this happens all to often in the world. Many think that THEIR priorities are more important than others, based on criteria they defined themselves. People with this mindset will often force their priorities on others who do not agree without any consideration of how it might effect the other people. It is this kind of mindset that essentially causes ALL the conflict in the world. It is this kind of mindset that PAX Nation opposes.

Compassion is the driving force behind PAX Nation. Compassion is essentially what drives ANY individual or group that wishes to bring unity to the world instead of the persistent division that currently exists. But what exactly IS compassion? It is much more than just being kind or forgiving. Some see compassion as weakness … proving they do not truly understand the concept. How can we embrace it if we don’t UNDERSTAND it? Enter The Charter for Compassion:

The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

The Charter for Compassion was developed by an organization that is devoted to reeducating the world in the true meaning of compassion. To this end, they created a document that clearly sates what compassion really means to each of us. By signing The Charter, we commit ourselves to not only upholding these concepts … but actively spreading them throughout our communities. Since this is the ultimate goal of PAX Nation, we have just officially signed The Charter, and created a partnership that will hopefully blossom as we rewrite our future.

Whether you are a citizen of PAX Nation, or just passing through, compassion is definitely part of your makeup. If you want to show your commitment to creating a compassionate world, SIGN THE CHARTER. Take it one step further, and get your community involved! Together, we can truly make a difference!

So far I have failed to make this happen. But I continue to work at it, and maybe with patience and perseverance, the effort will not be in vain. As I have mentioned before, the biggest challenge that PAX Nation needs to overcome to grow at the moment is lack of resources (material, financial, AND human). Thus growth is slow.  I have recently been devoting my time to a couple of other projects intended to help with the financial issue. Most of my focus has been on my photo website, for a few reasons. One I have a LOT of photos to share. Two I have some skill with a camera, so don’t feel it inappropriate to offer the ability to purchase my artwork in various forms. Finally I want to use some of my photos to help PAX Nation grow.

That said, I have started adding some pictures from my own adventures to Images from afar … a page devoted to sharing images of the variety and beauty that this world has to offer. I have many of my own pictures to share, but as with everything else in this project, it is not intended to be just me sharing MY life. I have also added the ability for others to upload images that THEY would like to share. Even if we do not have the capacity to CHANGE the world yet here, we certainly can share information about our part of it with others. I encourage folk to upload pictures that are indicative of your part of the world. Images of nature, of people, of civilization … whatever you think is worth sharing. I had already included the ability for members to write their own blog posts, but I have added some posting guidelines to the page. Let your voice be hear about … whatever it is you wish to share.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Visit Images from afar …” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fthrumyeyes.life/a-better-world%2Fvisit-pax-nation%2Fimages-from-afar%2F|||”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Upload your own images” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fthrumyeyes.life/a-better-world%2Fvisit-pax-nation%2Fimages-from-afar%2Fupload-images%2F|||”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Write a blog post” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fthrumyeyes.life/a-better-world%2Fwhats-new-in-pax-nation%2Fwrite-a-blog-post%2F|||”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_images_carousel images=”2791,2826,2825,2820,2819,2818,2817,2816,2815,2814,2813,2804,2803,2802,2801,2800,2795,2794,2793,2792″ img_size=”medium” autoplay=”yes” hide_pagination_control=”yes” wrap=”yes” title=”Recently added images”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I have done a few more modifications to the site, and hopefully made a few more improvements. I have opted for a different method to add social networking features. They are prettier than the last attempt, and seemingly more functional. User profiles are a little more elaborate, and one can actually view their own profile now (something I did not realize we could not do before … part of the reason for the new method). Take a peek at My profile and Meet our citizens!. There is also a new page for general activity updates.

Also, I have added in the ability for registered members to write their own blog posts. I am using that feature right now to test it out. Members have a fair amount of flexibility as far as the posts appearance, including the ability to add media. All posts will be vetted before final publication, just to make sure they are not spam or somehow not suitable to the aims of the community, but it will take some serious effort to be denied. Their might be some minor editing to correct for typos and such, but for the most part the posts will be as written. If the list of categories does not apply to the needs of the post, contact us and we will make sure the desired category is added in.

The network is still pretty simple, but I have plans of adding in many more features, such as the ability to have friends and interact with them in several different ways. There will be chat and messaging and groups. There also will be the ability to add media to he profiles, as well as more customization features for them. Unfortunately the more advanced features require resources I don’t have yet, but since our user base is still small (and basically inactive), they are not needed yet.

I encourage members to become more active and try out some of the new features. I have been trying to trim the user list to actual people, so if I inadvertently deleted a real account, I apologize. Please register again!

I hope all enjoy the changes. As always, feedback and suggestions are quite welcome![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

It was as much an effort to kick myself in the butt as an announcement to the “world”. I really did not expect any response to the post, let alone that it would fundamentally change much of anything. Isn’t it funny how those are the posts that often have the most impact?

It is not as if the post was more popular than any other. I am not well read, partly because I don’t play the games often necessary to achieve popularity. I did get one comment (which is one more than I usually get), which opened my eyes to a thing or three, but not for any specific quality of the comment. It essentially said “What are you talking about?” (if not exactly in those words. So what was so special about this post … other than the insignificant yet eye-opening comment? It was the pebble to start another avalanche. How big an avalanche is yet to be seen. Thanks to that collection of words, I am back to tilting with windmills, seeking out an army of Sacho Panzas while I am at it.

I realized that just because I am clear about my goals does not mean that they are clear to everyone else. I also realized that I can’t expect anyone to actually figure out said goals if they are scattered throughout a site that doesn’t actually work. I have spent the last few days attempting to rectify this, and am now going to try to clarify things a bit, as well as give those who are actually on board a progress report. Here goes …

Aim for the stars ultimate goal

  • In a world becoming more and more digitized, it makes sense that there be an actual governing force in the digital world … one that is not defined by lines on a physical map but rather by ideals. It will be a nation without borders that has actual influence in the course of human history. In short, I am (unrealistically) trying to found an internet nation on the last terrestrial frontier.

More realistic ultimate goal

  • I am trying to create an active community of idealists. I am seeking  those who believe that the constant divisive tactics of the current world order is ultimately not productive for humanity specifically, and the life of the planet in general. The community will be a support for those who often lack support, as well as help provide the resources to those who need them. We will not be defined by unproductive policies governed by greed, but rather by policies determined to create harmony and growth. If it works, we will have active members all over the globe … seeds. If enough of these seeds are planted, and we nourish them properly, what kind of garden will we manage to grow?

What I have recently done

  • I realized that thanks to our constant need to improve technology that may not really need improving, much of the site I thought was at least basically functional was … in fact … not. No wonder I was getting so little indication of use, let alone any kind of active following. I spent the last few days making the site slightly prettier, and definitely more functional.
  • I have created the seeds of the core aspects of the community to come. First, there is now a rudimentary social network that … well … works this time.
  • I have taken the first step to creating an actual economy for our online nation. Even if we never truly become a “nation”, any community that expects to survive has to have a functional internal economy.
  • I have opened the door to connecting the physical world to the digital one.
  • I have enabled conversation between community members.
  • I have taken the first step to active projects for change.
  • In short, the site works now, and is ready to begin its journey towards a community for change (or so I hope).

Short term goals

  • Have a membership that is not made up of 70% spammers.
  • Figure out a way to encourage existing members to become ACTIVE members.
  • Make the site more action motivated.
  • At least double the size of the development / management team (bringing the total size to two).
  • Establish steady revenue sources so that I can survive and actually DEVELOP the community.
  • Collect ideas on doable projects and start DOING them.
  • Establish an actual presence on the internet (even if only a small one).

Longer term goals

  • Have a dedicated server (or better yet multiple servers), with the staff to maintain them.
  • Have a truly functional social network that is self-sustaining.
  • Have an established support system for real world activities.
  • Have a functional economy that is capable of growth.
  • Have an established “constitution” and “government” for the community.
  • Be DOING more, and less TALKING ABOUT doing.

Resources needed

  • Money (sadly this cannot be avoided)
  • Web development and programming skills … I have some, but not enough to make this into something truly awe-inspiring.
  • Awareness … this will never get anywhere unless the word is spread.
  • Dedicated humans … this is, and will always be, the premier resource needed to make this into a viable community.

Summary

  • I have a VERY long way to go for PAX Nation to become anything more than just a crazy man rambling on about a “better” world, with a few malcontents seeing merit in his ideas. That said, there seems to have been enough interest in this project … even after me kind of setting it aside … that I actually believe in the POSSIBILITY of it happening, even if it is remote at best. Every major shift in the world took a little bit of crazy and a whole lot of dedication. I have plenty of crazy, and my dedication flips between insane ravings and action. Essentially it comes down to this … if there is anyone out there that truly thinks this is an idea worth pursuing …

I NEED YOU WITH ME. I CANNOT DO THIS ALONE.

When one becomes two, the chances of two becoming more increases. And with each increase in numbers, the “impossible” becomes less impossible. As the numbers grow, critical mass becomes more and more of a possibility until it becomes probable, and finally … inevitable.

Who wants to help me change the face of the world?
