Sock it to ’em

I believe there are certain mysteries that is not for humans to understand. Sure we make an effort to, either with science or religion, but there are certain question that will never truly be answered to our satisfaction.  Was the universe designed or caused by a freak lab accident? Do Republicans and Democrats actually come from the same species? There are many such questions. But today I have a few I would like to concentrate on, because they come up often and I believe are closely related:

Do writing utensils and socks go to the same place when they disappear? And were THEY created by design or by freak lab accident? We all know that no matter how many pens and/or pencils you may have, the ease of finding them is inversely proportional to your need for them. If it is an emergency, guaranteed they will be nowhere to be found. And we all also know that a pair of socks will invariably turn into one sock the moment they approach a washing machine or dryer. I am starting to think that the truth is that socks and writing utensils are actually the same beast. They either react out of fear or maybe some sense of mischief and switch between being pens and pencils and socks.

"20130207-200047.jpg"But that is not even the question that is most on my mind right now. The big mystery for me is still about socks. What exactly is the purpose of reinforced stitching on heals and toes? As far as I can tell, they just ensure the holes are somewhere else on the sock. Why is the whole sock not made that way? And is the reinforcement somehow better when it is made out of gold thread? It is a real mystery to me. I am thinking it is just another of the self-defense techniques of socks. Or they actually get some of the profits. I can’t imagine socks enjoy extra holes in their bodies any more than we do. So no doubt they must get something for having their bodies mutilated for no apparent reason.

But the ultimate mystery is why humans keep putting their energy (in the form of money) into things that really have no value whatsoever. I am not sure THAT is a question even an all-knowing being could answer.
